Now that the Spot GPS Satellite Tracker has been in the market place for a couple of years and I have been fortunate enough to have sold 100's of these devices, I thought it might be time to explore who actually buys these things.  Is the Spot Tracker more a male or female oriented product?  What if the answer is YES?  Let's have a little fun and look at what has been happening.  The results may surprise you!

The first question you might have is why does anyone even care whether a female of male would purchase a Spot GPS Tracker?  Call it my stupid curiosity.  Here is how it happened to even come up.  In June, 2010 we had a meeting with Dave, our Spot rep.  He was interested to find out how things were going and also to alert me to what Spot had in mind for the upcoming Fall/Holiday period.  He went on to explain there would not be any rebate program for Spot2 but rather a special $50 bonus to be included with all Spot-2 product.  He did indicate that the $50 rebate for Spot1 product would be continued to January 31, 2011.  Business concluded we began to just chat.

Now having sold 100's of the Spot GPS product I suggested to David that I was really surprised that the majority of my online customers were female.  I wish you could have seen the shock on his face.  David immediately responded by saying that could not be true since the data Spot collected suggested that was not the case at all.  He went on to say the majority of purchasers were Male between the ages of late 20's and late 30's and that was that.

That was interesting so we discussed a little further.  In the end the answer would be YES the product is both Female and Male oriented.  But how can this be?  Let's take a look at where the data is coming from (Do I sound a little like a Political Pundit?).  As an online retailer for Spot I only see the sales information but anyone can purchase the product and in only rare cases will I know who the actual end user really is.  I only can see the purchasers are mostly Female.  Now let's look at where Spot gets it's data.  As a retailer for Spot GPS I sell and deliver the product but do not register the product.  Generally Spot does not sell the product to the end user but  the Spot people are the only ones who can register the product and activate the Spot product and they never really know who actually purchased the product in the first place.  So who cares?  Well, I am curious and so David and I talked about this just a little bit more.

After some discussion, it seemed to me given how product is actually registed, many of my customers were actually getting the Spot product so they could  actually see that their loved one was OK or that in the case of emergency the Spot Tracker user had an effective means of getting help on a timely basis.

But that is not to say that would be the only reason why a female might buy a Spot Satellite  Messenger.  Girls also do adventure stuff and need the product for the very same reasons a Male user may purchase the product.  From time to time when I do have an opportunity to talk to a customer you might be amazed at some of the wacky stuff Girls do too!  But I will leave that to another day.

Whether Male or Female buy the Spot GPS Tracker with confidence that it will perform and do what you want it to do.  A Spot Satellite Messenger GPS Tracker is a product that Works!
